Developing a verifiable Carbon Credit Market Place for Smallholder farmers in Kisii County

Smallholder farmers in Kisii County have the potential to benefit from carbon Credit trading. However, individually, they do not meet the minimum carbon credit requirements such as producing 1 tonne. Additionally, they lack the capacity to access international carbon credit market.

Our Approach

Work with 10,000 smallholder farmers to form a County wide cooperative. This way, they can pool their resources together to meet the minimum carbon credit requirements. Use Blockchain to support micro-credit transparency and traceability. Use SSI to secure and track the carbon credits from the point of generation to the point of sale.

How it Works

The Ecosystem brings together the Kisii County Climate Change Board as an issuer, farmers as holders and the International Carbon Credit exchnages as verifiers.

The Board issues verifiable micro-credits to farmers wallets. Farmers may choose to exchange the credits locally within the ecosystem or sell to aggrgators. The Ecosystem governance framework includes rules for exchanging the credits and distributing funds.
